RacquetGear.com is organizing a Box League for adult male tennis players in the Triple Cities area. Box leagues are loads of fun and are popular throughout the USA. It’s time we got one started here.
The league works like this: participants are placed in a
category according to their playing level (self evaluated).
We will have 4 boxes (roughly equivalent to 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5). Players within each box play every other player within the same box once during a one-month period. At the end of the month, the two players with the highest scores within the box move up to the next box, while the two players with the lowest scores move down to the box below.
Players arrange their matches themselves at their convenience on whatever courts they choose. While the weather is good, you can play outdoors. Once the weather changes, you can play at the BInghamton Tennis Center or at the Southern Tier Sports Complex on the Old Vestal Road in Vestal (were you will get a discount on court time).
Matches are best out of three sets (regular scoring, tie-breaks, etc.). Winner of a match gets 21 points, loser gets the total number of games won. Total points determine the ranking within the box.
League play will begin October lst and continue through the summer. Cost to register is $10. Registration is on-line, and all results, standings, communication via email with participants, etc. is conducted on-line.
