The Vestal Junior Team Tennis Association (VJTTA) is a not-for-profit Community Tennis Association. We are incorporated in New York and are affiliated with the United States Tennis Association (USTA). VJTTA is the first program in southern New York to organize youth tennis teams. We are the only junior team tennis association in the United States to have a year-round program.
All of our coaches, team parents, members of the board of directors, and other participants are volunteers, most with children playing in the program. We charge a registration fee for each child and also solicit financial support from local sponsors to defray some of our program's equipment and team uniform expenses. The USTA provided us with a small grant to cover start-up costs in 2006.
For our first season, we registered over 130 youths between the ages of 6 and 12 years and organized them by age group into 14 teams. After a few practices, regular match play began on June 24th. The kids played one match and had one practice a week through the summer. Matches and practices were held on Vestal's community tennis courts and at the High School.
Our 2006-07 Winter Season was also a success, with over 40 children participating. We held practices and matches indoors at the Southern Tier Sports Center on the Old Vestal Road in Vestal. We have expanded our 2007 Summer Program to include juniors from 13-15 years of age.
Our association is managed by a Board of Directors. Info regarding scheduled meetings is posted on the website. All those participating in the program are welcome to attend our Board Meetings and to serve on the Board as vacancies become available.
